New Management, New Philosophy

Hello. This blog has been taken over by me from the couple that ran it (okay, they gave me permission). I'll probably only update it once a week. Maybe twice a month. Not sure yet. I won't be suggesting shows for you to go see, unless I'm really into the artist or band. I'll be keeping the musician interview format, though, because it works. I won't be talking about other DdFW music sites, unless it's to report on what they've published. I'm taking over this site to promote music and musicians. That's not to say it will be all positive all the time. I don't believe in that. But I don't believe in baseless destruction either. I leave that to the Republican Party.

So yeah,
f.n.

Same Old, Same Old

This week brings us another rousing discussion at WeShotJR. This time, the debate centers around the Denton noise-rock scene. Now, while we on this site don't particularly care for the noise-rock genre, we do acknowledge that JR's article is well written and thoughtful. JR has good writing skills. Maybe the Dallas Observer should run a monthly "From JR" column.

Where You Should be Tonight in Dallas

After listening to Cindy's podcasts and hearing first-hand field reports, we're convinced that Open Mic Night at Fallout Lounge is the place to be on Monday nights. Hosted by Rhett and Tim from the Happy Bullets, this all-out event is attracting some of the area's best and most creative musical artists. Open Mic begins at 10 p.m., and it's free.

Vacation, All We Ever Wanted

We're going on a short, family vacation. We're not flying, so we're free to bring all the toothpaste and shampoo we want. And because we're going on a vacation (we'll be back Monday), we're listing our Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday recommendations now. So as not to overwhelm you, we're picking two activities for each day that we feel will sufficiently (we hope) entertain you.

Carlos Guedes at the Brooklyn Jazz Cafe in Dallas. Cost is free. Here's the description from his Web site:

"Carlos plays a custom-made electro-acoustic harp, but his music presents a powerful live act combining a unique blend of Contemporary Latin Jazz with Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian Rhythms. The Carlos Guedes three piece instrumental high-energy group plays his original compositions backed up by a drummer and a percussionist.
The Bass player is his left hand on the harp."

A Case of the Mundays

Maybe it was the long weekend, but we don't feel like talking much today.

Bobby Ewing Recommended Nighttime Activities

Attractive and Popular and Blonde Girls at the The Eighth Continent in Denton.

Rhett and Tim from the Happy Bullets hold another open mic session at the Fallout Lounge in Expo Park in Dallas. This ball is starting to roll along nicely, with drums and amps provided for artists to come in and play either solo or as a group. There are drink specials and it's free. It just may be the best thing happening in the city on a Monday night.
