Same Old, Same Old

This week brings us another rousing discussion at WeShotJR. This time, the debate centers around the Denton noise-rock scene. Now, while we on this site don't particularly care for the noise-rock genre, we do acknowledge that JR's article is well written and thoughtful. JR has good writing skills. Maybe the Dallas Observer should run a monthly "From JR" column.

OK. You don't like Sonic Youth, Boredoms, early Jesus and Mary Chain, Early Husker DU, Mission of Burma, My Bloody Valentine or The Birthday Party. Think about what you are saying before you claim to dislike a whole genre of music. Noise rock is just like any other genre. their is accesible stuff and not so accesible stuff. A lot of the stuff around here tends to fall into the first category.

Yes, maybe we should clarify, Mwanza. What we don't really care for from past experience are the noise rock bands that tend to be just louder jam bands. We tend to lean toward more structure in songs. So yes, we do like JAMC, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, etc., because they know how to rein in the noise with a solid song frame.
